Connect to Windows safely with RDP.
Essential access and hardening steps for a new Windows VPS.
Confirm the image and licence
Review the Windows image and any applicable licence charge in the dashboard before ordering. Keep the accepted order and invoice for reference.
Make the first connection
Use the address and initial credentials supplied through the dashboard. Verify the server identity and connect from a trusted device and network. Do not share RDP credentials through ordinary messages.
Protect administrator access
Replace temporary credentials with a long unique password, create named accounts for administrators, remove access that is no longer needed, and enable account lockout or multi-factor controls where the deployed software supports them.
Patch and restrict the server
Install Windows updates, enable the firewall, expose only required ports, and restrict RDP by source network or a secured access path where practical. Keep endpoint protection and application software current.
Prepare recovery
Document the installed roles, licence keys, service dependencies, and restore procedure. Maintain an independent backup and verify that critical files or application data can be recovered.
